15 Minutes of Fame!

Somehow, my boyfriend convinced me to play at an open mic with him last week!  Honestly, how can you say “no” to this guy?

Remember Rock Band? I took that game seriously!  I was always the singer and my brother was always the drummer.  In real life, I’m still the singer and my boyfriend plays guitar.  I don’t even want to get into his collection of stringed instruments because I’d rather talk about more interesting topics – liiikee my look for the night!

We have a bluegrass/blues vibe going on so I actually thought rockin' a Canadian Tuxedo would be appropriate! I paired a denim shirt with a pair of jeans in similar color, slid a leopard print skinny belt around my waist, clasped my favorite gold necklace under my shirt collar, and added my cowgirl boots as a final touch.  I pictured us looking more like Britney and JT circa 2001. Never Forget.

After a once over in the mirror, I quickly realized that I cannot pull off double denim - Especially if I wanted us to be taken seriously!  If you know me, then you know that leggings are always my go-to choice. Off with the jeans and on with the leggings.  VoilĂ !

This clip is actually a song that Max and I wrote together :)

We performed 4 songs that night.  We were incredibly nervous but as soon as we hit the stage, it felt natural!  Want to hear more?? We're planning a set for next Thursday at Woodlands' open mic. Come out and cheer us on! We would love the support!!

Neonnnnnnn

Now that the sun has finished hibernating (cold weather, your days are numbered!), the Short North is bustling with joggers, bikers, dog walkers, coffee drinkers, friends brunching and so much more!  What do these types of people have in common?  They're all wearing neon!

I, of course, do not want to be left out of the trend!  I love these neon mint pants - think Essie's mint candy apple nail polish.  But, if my pants are loud, they will speak for themselves.  I wanted to keep the top neutral. I love basics!  Dress them up, dress them down.  I picked up this striped shirt when I was vacationing in Madrid back in 2011.

Time out.  Can we focus on this necklace for a minute?  I love the color combos and faux gems that make up this necklace.  An add for Sammy Dress Clothing was on my Facebook news feed awhile ago, promoting an inexpensive high waisted swimsuit.  I ended up purchasing this necklace for $11!  From my research, I've gathered that Sammy Dress sells popular necklaces at a discounted price by changing the name of the jewelry.  So you really have to search for what you want, but you'll definitely get a bang for your buck!

Get wild with this leopard print skinny belt.  It's not holding up my pants - it's purely for decoration!

I just bought these shoes.  Something about the brown/black combo with the chunky heel.  Not to mention, the designer, Franco Sarto, makes the trendiest shoes comfortable!

How are you incorporating neon into your Spring wardrobe?

First entry: Amber's Engagement

Amber's fiancé, Danny, planned this adorable surprise gathering with friends and family on a Saturday evening in Columbus. Let's get one thing straight. I'm in Human Resources. That's like the hub of all gossip! But I sure can keep a secret! Sorry, Amber :)

I digress....Earlier in the week, weather looked great!  Partly cloudy, 60 degrees. WRONG. I woke up on said Saturday to rain.  Rain, rain go away, come again another day.... Not only did it rain ALL. DAY. LONG! It also started snowing around 7p.m. Mind you, it's the end of March here.  But he made it all work without Amber catching on.  Great job, Danny!

I, on the other hand, needed an outfit suitable for an engagement celebration followed by an alternative concert (as I previously purchased Grouplove tickets prior to knowing the date of Amber's engagement).  WHAT. WOULD. KIKI. WEAR?  I needed something that was feminine-meets-rocker-chick. I work at the corporate office of a leading footwear and accessories retailer.  Having the right shoe is not an issue.  Having too many shoes? Yes!  These Betsey Johnson studded booties paired with leather leggings were the perfect combo for a concert.  As for a feminine touch, I went with this flowy, magenta blouse complete with a bow in the back.

Danny rented out the top floor of a local bar.  Everyone gathered around 5:45.  Around 6:30, the happy couple has finally arrived and the celebrations began!

Don't mind my bra straps - I was too excited to see that ROCK!  But you can see the bow in the back of my shirt. It's from www.shophopes.com
